Magnacef 400 Mg, Antibiotic, Suspension, Reduce Bacterial Infections - 6 Capsules

Cefixime is a cephalosporin. Like penicillins, it is a beta-lactam antibiotic. It acts by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall thus it inhibits the bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Without a cell wall, a bacterial cell is vulnerable to outside water and molecular pressures, which causes the cell to quickly die.

It is indicated for the treatment of the following acute infections when caused by susceptible microorganisms:

Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): e.g. otitis media; and other URTI where the causative organism is known or suspected to be resistant to other commonly used antibiotics, or where treatment failure may carry significant risk.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infection: e.g. bronchitis.
Urinary Tract Infections: e.g. cystitis, cystourethritis, uncomplicated pyelonephritis.

Cefixime is for oral use
The usual course of treatment is 7 days. This may be continued for up to 14 days if required.
Adults and Children over 10 Years or weighing more than 50 kg: The recommended adult dosage is 200-400 mg daily according to the severity of infection, given either as a single dose or in two divided doses.
Elderly: Elderly patients may be given the same dose as recommended for adults.
Renal function should be assessed and dosage should be adjusted in severe renal impairment
Children under 10 Years: Cefixime 200 mg is not recommended for use in children under 10 years old.
The safety and efficacy of cefixime have not been established in children less than 6 months.
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

The dosage must be adjusted according to the grade of renal impairment
Cefixime can predispose to encephalopathy risk (which may include convulsions, confusion, impairment of consciousness, movement disorders), particularly in case of overdose or renal impairment.
Cefixime may cause acute renal failure
A false-positive reaction for glucose in the urine may occur
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

The average normal oral temperature is 98.6°F (37°C).
A rectal temperature is 0.5 F (0.3 C) to 1 F (0.6 C) higher than an oral temperature.
An ear (tympanic) temperature is 0.5 F (0.3 C) to 1 F (0.6 C) higher than an oral temperature.
