The mechanism of action is through the suppression of gonadotropin release from the hypothalamus. With suppression of gonadotropin release, ovarian stimulation and follicular maturation do not occur, and the estradiol levels are low due to diminished follicular production. The follicles are the major producers of estradiol and with a sparsity of follicular maturation, estradiol production therefore plummets.

This medication is a combination of 2 hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (drospirenone). This product is used to prevent pregnancy
Method Of Administration Of Yaz Plus Tablets
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Tablets must be taken every day at about the same time so that the interval between two tablets always is 24 hours.
Take it every day for 28 days.
It comes in strips of 28 pills, each marked with a day of the week.
Start by taking a pill marked with the correct day of the week.
Follow the direction of the arrows on the strip.
Take one pill each day, until you have finished all 28 pills.
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

Nausea.
Vomiting.
Headache.
Bloating.
breast tenderness
breast tenderness.
swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention), or weight change may occur.
Vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods may occur, especially during the first few months of use

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you have elevated levels of fat in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia) or a positive family history for this condition
If you have diabetes
If you have just given birth you are at an increased risk of blood clots
If you have an inflammation in the veins under the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis)
If you have varicose veins
If you have epilepsy
If you have systemic lupus erythematosus
If you have hemolytic uremic syndrome
If a close relative has or has ever had breast cancer
If you have sickle cell anemia
If you have a disease of the liver or the gallbladder
If you have depression
If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease)

Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
