Cyclosporine is a potent immunomodulatory agent with an increasing number of clinical applications.
Its major mode of action is inhibition of the production of cytokines involved in the regulation of T-cell activation.
In particular, cyclosporine inhibits the transcription of interleukin 2.

Restasis is a medication used to treat eye symptoms related to Sjogren’s syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the glands that produce tears and saliva do not function correctly.
Restasis eye drops are used to treat chronic dry eye that may be caused by inflammation.

The usual dose is 1 drop in each eye twice daily. Use Restasis eye drops every 12 hours (approximately).
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:
mild burning or stinging in the eyes;
mild redness or itching;
blurred vision; or
feeling like something is in your eye.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Do not touch the Restasis dropper on to any surface, including the eyes or hands. The dropper is sterile.
If it becomes contaminated (dirty), it could cause an infection in the eye(s).
Do not use this medicine while wearing contact lenses.
Contact lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes following the administration of Restasis eye drops, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Before taking this medicine:
You should not use Restasis if you are allergic to cyclosporine.
Restasis is likely safe in pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
It is not known whether Restasis passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby, although it is likely safe.
Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
This medicine is not approved for use by anyone younger than 16 years old.

Store below 25.
Don’t freeze.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label.
The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
