Edoxaban exerts its mechanism of action via direct, reversible, selective inhibition of factor Xa.
Factor Xa works on both the extrinsic and intrinsic pathways of the coagulation cascade.
Factory Xa binds factor Va forming a complex which functions to separate prothrombin from thrombin.

Prevents blood clots in the brain (stroke) and other blood vessels in the body if you have a form of irregular heart rhythm called nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and at least one additional risk factor.
Treats blood clots in the veins of your legs and lungs and prevents blood clots from reoccurring in the vein of your legs and lungs.

Swallow the tablet, preferably with water.
Edoxaban can be taken with or without food.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is one 60 mg tablet once daily.
If you have impaired kidney function, the dose may be reduced to one 30 mg tablet once daily by your doctor
If your body weight is 60 kg or lower, the recommended dose is one 30 mg tablet once daily
If your doctor has prescribed medicines known as P-gp inhibitors: ciclosporin, dronedarone, erythromycin, or ketoconazole, the recommended dose is one 30 mg tablet once daily.
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Wear loose-fitting clothes, socks, or stockings.
Wear special stockings (called compression stockings) if your doctor prescribes them.
Do exercises your doctor gives you.
Change your position often, especially during a long trip.
Do not stand or sit for more than 1 hour at a time.
Take all medicines the doctor prescribes you.

Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before you take this medicine if you have any of The following:

An increased risk of bleeding, such as bleeding disorders, including conditions resulting in reduced platelet activity, very high blood pressure, not controlled by medical treatment
If you have a mechanical heart valve

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medications including over-the-counter non-prescription medicines, prescription medicines, herbal supplements, vitamins, and supplements.

Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
