Azithromycin belongs to the class of drugs known as macrolide antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.
Azithromycin prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis.

It is used to treat infections caused by certain bacteria and other microorganisms, which include:

Chest, throat, or nasal infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat (pharyngitis), and sinusitis)
Ear infections
Skin and soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil)
Sexually transmitted diseases are caused by organisms called Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea

Always take or give this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The pharmacist should have advised you whether to measure the medicine using the multi-dosing spoon or the oral dosing syringe
Zetron suspension is generally used for children under 7 years (45 kg). It may also be used in adults and older children who have difficulty swallowing capsules.
Zetron suspension is not affected by food or drink.
Children under 45 kg: The recommended dose in children is 10 mg for each kg of body weight, given as a single daily dose for 3 days
Adults and children over 45 kg: The recommended dose in adults and children over 7 years (45 kg) is 500 mg taken as a single dose, for 3 days
Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain from:

Sudden wheezing, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching
Severe or prolonged diarrhea
Severe skin rash causing redness and flaking
Rapid or irregular heartbeat
Low blood pressure

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Your doctor will discuss the possible risks and benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

The average normal oral temperature is 98.6°F (37°C).
A rectal temperature is 0.5 F (0.3 C) to 1 F (0.6 C) higher than an oral temperature.
An ear (tympanic) temperature is 0.5 F (0.3 C) to 1 F (0.6 C) higher than an oral temperature.
